One of my favorite scenes in the Anne series is Anne reenacting Tennyson and finding herself stranded in the middle of a pond when her dingy catches a leak.  

Gilbert arrives out of nowhere on a rowboat of his own and asks, "Anne Shirley, what in heck are you doing?

"Fishing for lake trout," she replies with as much dignity as she can muster while grasping to the pilings of a bridge.

I love the humor of the exchange but also equally loves what comes next.  The beginnings of forgiveness and making room for a new friendship.

So while this painting is very serene, know it comes with a heavy dose of chuckling over the misguided adventures of my favorite redhead.
