bag end || hobbit and lord of the rings original painting
When I began the Literary Landscape series, I thought to some of my favorite classic novels with rather striking visuals. They were predictable titles, and books that I love dearly. But the stories of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins as told by J.R.R. Tolkien would not leave my mind.
The Shire is such an idyllic place in my imagination and serves as a beacon of hope for the intrepid hobbits on their treacherous adventures. I love the symbolism of the Shire. Knowing there are places of safety, beauty, and hope, even amid hard times.
This piece took me, as Bilbo would call it, on an unexpected journey. At 8x10-inches, it is larger than I customarily work and full of so much detail. I had to dig deep in to my years of learning how to paint perspective and realism while leaning into my illustrative, impressionistic style
This piece took me by surprise and I am so deeply proud of it and delighted to share it with you.
