Sometimes the ideas and dreams we have take a long time to come to life.  I began dreaming up an iteration of this piece in late 2019 when I made my first advent calendar for the Christmas season.  I wanted to translate that to the Lenten tradition, but could not figure it out.

Fast forward to early 2021, when I began painting botanicals in earnest and could not get Easter off of my mind.  I wanted to share my love of this holiday and gratitude for the Savior, but lambs looked like blobs and tombs fell short.

Then like lightning, amid a table covered in Easter eggs, I knew what I wanted to do.  not only that, I knew what I could do.  Coming off of my botanical studies, I had the natural world at my fingertips and drew immediate inspiration from that.

The result is a natural study of Holy Week.  Eight botanical illustrations symbolically representing a day in the last week of the Savior's earthly life.  From the obvious palm leaf, to the more subtle white campion, each of these plants found me in my research and helped me share this essential story.

The print features all eight plants, including the title of the day they correspond with and name of the plant. Inserted with each print, is a 5x7 card giving more detailed descriptions of each day, plant, and scriptural references.

Much like my botanical studies, my study of Holy Week taught me a great deal.

Here's what I learned:

- there's is no set way to share your testimony.

- Jesus Christ lived, suffered in Gethsamane, died on Calvary, and rose again.  He.  Lives.

- your voice matters.

- you are not alone.

- some projects come more fluidly than others.

-trust yourself.  Trust the Spirit more.

- don't give up.  keep at it and it will eventually make sense.
