The summer during my time in Cyprus was brutal.  Heat hotter than this midwestern girl ever dreamed of with just enough humidity wafting in off the Mediterranean to leave you gasping for a cool drink and gentle breeze.

The roadsides were lined with watermelon vendors.  Trucks overflowing with the melons would soon empty as passersby stocked up on the refreshing fruit.  The melons would be turned into drinks, snacks, salads, and so much more as they were the perfect respite from the blistering heat.
